John S.Garner, President, Center for Family-Owned Business

Mr. Garner is one of the founders and partners in the C.F.O.B. and serves as a consultant to family-owned and closely-held companies and their owners. Formerly serving as President of his own company, Marketplace Consultants, Mr. Garner specializes in market analysis, recruiting and training sales departments, marketing plans, organizational audits and tactical implementation of strategic plans. He has been particularly successful in turnaround management. He also heads the mergers and acquisitions division and is actively involved in business brokerage.

Professional and Community Activities

Mr. Garner has been actively involved in Easter Seals and volunteer fire department fund raising, his local church, and served as founder and past president of Lancaster Business TEAM. Currently, he serves as president of New Vo (a multi-church missions organization).

He has been a member of the International Business Brokers Association and has earned the CBI designation.

He has also held memberships in the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and National Associations of Realtors.

Educational and Professional Credentials

Mr. Garner is a 1969 graduate with honors from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. He did one year of graduate studies at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and completed courses in a Master of Leadership Studies Program at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He has held real estate and insurance licenses since 1976 and has been awarded the Management and Investment Specialists designations from Century 21.

Experience and Background

Mr. Garner has a broad and varied background in church-related work and in his earlier days served as an Associate Pastor in a Baptist Church in Pennsylvania and a Mission Team leader in Brazil. He has directed educational programs, youth ministries, hospital counseling, organized a bookstore, taught Jr. and Sr. high school, served as a professor and directed the curriculum development for a three-year Bible Institute.

Dr. James Walter

Dr. James Walter has 20 years experience in the corporate world and 20 years teaching business courses in colleges and universities.

Dr. Walter’s educational background includes an Associate in Engineering degree from Penn State Berks, Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Management from Albright College, an MBA in Marketing from St. Joseph’s University and a Ph.D. in Organization and Management, specializing in Leadership from Capella University. Dr. Walter served on the Board of Directors of the Albright Alumni Association and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi of the International Honor Society in Education.

Dr. Walter’s business background includes twenty years of experience in the corporate world, which involved development and execution of marketing plans in various industries, creating advertising campaigns, designing literature, conducting database management and telemarketing, lead management, and trade shows. He was also responsible for other marketing tasks, which included continual networking and development of long-term relationships with customers, trade industry associations, and the leading trade journals.

Dr. Walter has previously taught marketing and management courses full time for over eight years at Penn State and BTI and five years as an Assistant Professor in Business Administration at the University of Valley Forge. Prior to the full-time positions, Dr. Walter was an adjunct instructor of marketing and management for 15 years at Penn State, Albright College, and DeSales University concurrent with his positions in the corporate world.

Land and Land Development

Personally involved in over 4000 acres of land development, the largest being an assembly of 800 acres, the smallest being 3 acres. Negotiated contracts with sellers representing various buyers/developers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina/appeared before several zoning and municipal boards in their behalf. Represented developers to builders in selling different tracts upon completion of entitlements or improvements.

Local cafe/deli in Pa Several local developers and investors Largest Shopping Center represented 143,000 sf center in Delaware County, PA. Was hired by a fund out of Texas to stabilize a center they had acquired in a portfolio. I led a team who negotiated existing lease extensions for Sav-A-Lot, local lending institution, beverage store, nail salon, dry cleaners, pizza shop, pub, check cashing, deli, and industrial user. We represented the space until they sold it in another portfolio a year later.
